An interview with Doc Hammer and Jackson Publick
Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim series continually produces some of the best adult-centric cartoons under the William Street brand. Classics like Aquateen Hunger Force, Metalocalypse and the amazing Venture Brothers. The Venture Brothers, the topic of this post, is a modern version of Johnny Quest, if Johnny grew up having massive abandonment issues, over inflated self-entitlement due to a wealthy and brilliant scientist father, and was addicted to diet and pain pills.
Rusty Venture is the “Johnny Quest” character, now grown up and with two sons: Dean and Hank. You have the mullet sporting, muscled ex-CIA bodygaurd: Brock Samson, voiced by Patrick Warburton. And the the menagarie of good and evil villians, including some of my personal favorites such as Dr. Girlfriend, the Monarch, Phantom Limb, Dr. Henry Killenger, the evil moppets and of course the Abbot and Castello pair: #21 and #24 (henchmen of the Monarch).
In season 3, it ends with a huge twist/shock to those that watch the show. If you have not seen the show, you should… now! Go buy the DVDs, get them off iTunes or some other service. Do yourself a favor and watch the show from start to finish, it is a fantastic experience with amazing characters and the plot is damn good. For those that do watch the show, head over to Io9 where they have great tidbits from a panel interview with Doc Hammer and Jackson Publick (the show’s creators) at ComicCon. Warning: the post has a LOT of spoilers if you have not seen the end of Season 3. You’ve been warned!!
