For the fans of Mr. Show, you will probably agree the above scene has to be one of the more classic skits they have done. I recently started watching the DVDs again (’cause nothing decent was on TV and it had been ages since I last watched it) and seeing this scene just cracked me up. Even 11 years after this episode aired, Mr. Show is still just as funny now as it was then.

For those of you not familar with Mr. Show, it was a sketch comedy show on HBO that starred Bob Odenkirk and David Cross. Bob Odenkirk has been a writer on the Ben Stiller Show, Conan O’Brien, SNL, Tenacious D, and Tom Goes To The Mayor. David Cross is a stand-up comedian and actor featured in Arrested Development, Eternal Sunshine on the Spotless Mind and the seminal comdey CD Shut Up You F***ing Baby! Other members of the cast included Tom Kinney and Sarah Silverman.

Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim series continually produces some of the best adult-centric cartoons under the William Street brand. Classics like Aquateen Hunger Force, Metalocalypse and the amazing Venture Brothers. The Venture Brothers, the topic of this post, is a modern version of Johnny Quest, if Johnny grew up having massive abandonment issues, over inflated self-entitlement due to a wealthy and brilliant scientist father, and was addicted to diet and pain pills.

Rusty Venture is the “Johnny Quest” character, now grown up and with two sons: Dean and Hank. You have the mullet sporting, muscled ex-CIA bodygaurd: Brock Samson, voiced by Patrick Warburton. And the the menagarie of good and evil villians, including some of my personal favorites such as Dr. Girlfriend, the Monarch, Phantom Limb, Dr. Henry Killenger, the evil moppets and of course the Abbot and Castello pair: #21 and #24 (henchmen of the Monarch).

In season 3, it ends with a huge twist/shock to those that watch the show. If you have not seen the show, you should… now! Go buy the DVDs, get them off iTunes or some other service. Do yourself a favor and watch the show from start to finish, it is a fantastic experience with amazing characters and the plot is damn good. For those that do watch the show, head over to Io9 where they have great tidbits from a panel interview with Doc Hammer and Jackson Publick (the show’s creators) at ComicCon. Warning: the post has a LOT of spoilers if you have not seen the end of Season 3. You’ve been warned!!

Read [via Io9]

Recently I started watching a TV show that highlights the best and worst things about American restaurants. The show is called, Man Vs. Food and it pits the host Adam Richman against America’s top restaurant eating challenges; things like eating a 72 oz steak in under an hour, or how many 3 pound breakfast tacos can you eat before you die. Things like that. Its disgusting, its gluttonous, its pure brilliant awesome USA chanting entertainment!

Man Vs. Food is like the Las Vegas of the Travel Channel… everything that is both right and wrong with America in one giant serving. In the same vein of MvF, the website, “This Is Why You Are Fat” pays homage to glorious dietary destroyers. Things no man or woman should ever ingest, yet they do proudly while huming “God Bless America” as a thread of grease drips from the sagging jowls. Its wonderus, its horrifying… it almost always includes bacon. Truly, god bless America.

I have been an on-again-off-again fan of Ze Frank since his debut with the now classic “how to dance properly“, that god and everybody has seen by now. I used to work at Macromedia, back in the day so anything Flash based tended to float by our desks. Since then I would catch up on his work now and again and most recently saw him open for one of the Macromedia (now Adobe) MAX conferences. Good times.

Ze Frank is featured in a short pilot called “The Remnants” and seeing his name made me check it out. You should too…

The Remnants from John August on Vimeo.

The pilot for The Remnants, written and directed by John August. Starring Justine Bateman, Michael Cassidy, Ben Falcone, Ze Frank, Ernie Hudson, and Amanda Walsh. It was shot during the WGA strike in February 2008, using the SAG internet agreement.

The project is currently in development with 60Frames in association with NBC/U, so it could in theory become a series at some point. Either way, we had a good time making it.

I love Tim and Eric. Its odd, its creepy… it just like watching Access TV back in college late at night. Half the time I want to laugh out loud, the other half I am confused and horrified at the trainwreck I am watching. Good, good stuff.
