This is Japan!

Japan from Eric Testroete on Vimeo.

Some people are just born dripping with creative talent.  Vancouver-based videogame artist Eric Testroete took a 21 day trip to Japan with his girlfriend and just sorta popped out this masterpiece upon returning home, just sorta offhandedly pulled it out of his ass.  The photos were taken on a Pentax k20d, post-processed to give them that excellent saturated look, and stitched together in Sony Vegas.  Tuneage by LCD Soundsystem – “All My Friends”, which I think really adds some nice emotions to the already beautiful photography.  Click through to the Vimeo page for a version with more pixels.  If this doesn’t make you want to visit Japan, then you probably live there already.

Great on toast!

Mmm... ARCTIC DELICACY

Or at least that is what they claim on the page.  One of the more interesting tidbits is how the site breaks down the class, order and species of the food source.  Special thanks to my sister for pointing to this arctic delicacy.  Yum!

A sweet keyboard

Overall, keyboard and case mods are not my thing.  I used to be into building my machine from scratch, yet getting a Tornado case was about as “hip” as I got.  It was all about processing power and memory, that is what mattered.  There is a large contingency of modders out there, spending countless hours building custom cases, rigs and assorted peripherals.  Steampunk is one mod community gone mad, but I have to admit some of the things that come out of from them is pretty impressive.

Speaking of impressive, check out this keyboard hotness:

Keyboard made from scrabble like tiles

Now that is a mod I can standbehind.  Using scrabble (a game I despise since I can’t spell worth a shit) tiles as pure inspiration.  Rad.  Seriously, how cool is that?  Eh, probably only cool if you are a geek or some strange subset of geek.

How to care for child clowns

There is something about a clown… a horrible horrible something.  I don’t like them, I haven’t since Poltergeist.  Or maybe it was my terrible balloon phobia until I was 10.  Probably both.  But now thanks to Tim and Eric’s Awesome Show, Great Job! I can care for a child clown from Steve Mahanahan’s Child Clown Outlet.

I love Tim and Eric.  Its odd, its creepy… it just like watching Access TV back in college late at night.  Half the time I want to laugh out loud, the other half I am confused and horrified at the trainwreck I am watching. Good, good stuff.

What’s in your wallet?

nicknolte

In what can only be described as a genius fit of inspiration, Oklahoma salesman David L. Mackie had his Capital One credit card emblazoned with Nick Nolte’s totally dapper ‘02 mugshot. Jealous, Capital One is now offering Mackie $50 to get it back. Can’t they just print another one for themselves?

In other news, Nick Nolte has a Capital One credit card with a picture of David L. Mackie on it.

The obligatory intro post…

Ahh, the introduction post.  Nothing like the scent of brand-new blog.  What to say?  What to share?  How about recommendations engines gone awry:

I was reading Boing-Boing the other day and they were babbling on about how the “Joy of Sex” was being released.  They had a link to the author, or at least his name linked, that took me to Amazon’s listing of the book instead of a bio.  I was just about to hit back when I noticed the “Customer’s who bought this item” section.  Half expecting sex-toys or some other bizarre thing you can buy on Amazon I was stunned to find a recommendation for a cooking book.

Yup… nothing goes better with sex then Italian cooking and Giada De Laurentiis.  Hmm… maybe its not that far off?  Speaking of awesome, her grandfather was the producer of David Lynch’s “Dune”.  One of the best/worst/best again movies of all time.

So… back to Awesomecon.  A few of my friends and I have been tossing around the idea of having a blog dedicated to the random crap we find on the web.  Why the hell not, everyone else has one.  There you go.  Awesomecon: because the web fucking rocks.
